JOBS TEAM BOOKS A PLACE IN HEART OF CITY
With more jobs being added and more people registering every day, the new St David’s Jobs Team will soon be operating from the recently opened Cardiff Central Library.
As John Lewis, Debenhams, OCS, Game and Capital Shopping Centres all add vacancies to the database www.stdavids2jobs.com, a dedicated team is working hard to help local people fill them.
Led by Cardiff Council’s Local Training & Enterprise Service, the group will offer a range of free advice and training from the Library, to anyone considering work in either the new phase or the existing St David’s Shopping Centre. This will include help and guidance on CVs, job searches, food safety, basic IT and help with registering on the jobs website.
More than 3,500 people have now added their details to the website and up to 4,000 positions will be created within the retail and hospitality industries at St David’s 2. A UK-wide recognised employment preparation package, Retail Works, is being offered to anyone new to the sector or looking to refresh their skills. More help and advice will be available from Central Library when the team begins operating there on May 5.
Well over 1,200 people have already found construction jobs at St David’s 2 through the Bovis Jobshop. This is a local partnership between Cardiff Council, Bovis Lendlease and JobCentre Plus.
Over 4,600 people are registered with the construction jobs database and 224 new clients added their details in March alone. New positions are still being created at the site, mostly in finishing trades like dry lining, ceiling fixing, electrical work and carpentry.
Cardiff Council Leader Cllr Rodney Berman said: “As the opening of St David’s 2 draws ever nearer Cardiff Council is continuing to work with local partners to guide, advise and help local people obtain positions at the shopping centre.
“The team is committed to seeing its successful figures rise further and their presence at Central Library is an integral part of this scheme. With hundreds of people passing through its doors every day and more sure to seek the team out, I look forward to hearing of the continued success local people are having in obtaining employment at SD2.” |
