Local Theatre Company searches for new home

Orbit Theatre have long since established themselves as Wales’ premier amateur dramatic company, taking on more ambitious projects each year and encouraging Cardiff’s hottest young talent to take to the stage. This is reflected in their latest show, the inspirational musical Fame at the New Theatre from Tuesday 26 – Saturday 30 May.

But as they approach their 40th anniversary, the well-known company is in danger of losing its rehearsal space for the second time in a year. Previously they had called a church hall in Cardiff their home, but had to seek an alternative space when it was put up for sale. Now, with their current rehearsal space threatening to close, Orbit finds themselves on the look out once more.

However, not letting that get in their way, this year they have turned their sights to the high-energy musical Fame. Set in the New York Performing Arts High School, the story follows the triumphs and tragedies of young hopefuls as they train to be the best actors, dancers and musicians in the business. The show is full of exhilarating dance routines and great music – including the hit theme song.

Orbit began in 1969 with enthusiastic group of friends who launched their own theatre company with the aim of producing high quality amateur shows. Over the last four decades they have staged many classic musicals including Oliver, Annie, and Wizard of Oz as well as the more modern Witches of Eastwick. In 2007 Orbit Theatre premiered High School Musical in Wales. The production was such a success an extra night was added to the run and every performance sold out.

If you have a rehearsal space available or could suggest one, please contact Malcolm Brooke c/o New Theatre at ntmailings@cardiff.gov.uk.
