Look what you can learn!
Adult learners across the city are gearing up for the opening of a showcase exhibition displaying their work at the Old Library on The Hayes.
The annual Learners’ Exhibition celebrates the achievements of learners who have attended one of Cardiff Council’s Adult and Community Education courses in the last year as their work is displayed for all to see from 5 to 11 June.
Examples of pottery, sculpture, love spoon and relief carving, embroidery and stained glass will be on show as well as photography, flower arranging and jewellery to illustrate just a few of the many disciplines that are taught in classes at a number of venues across Cardiff.
Visitors to the exhibition who are inspired by the displays to learn a new skill themselves will be able to enrol on courses available, enjoy a variety of taster sessions and ask any questions to qualified staff.
Cardiff Council’s Schools & Lifelong Learning Adult and Community service provides over 1,500 courses reaching over 12,000 learners each year.
A variety of courses are available including ICT, Languages, Family Learning, Arts and Crafts and lots more. There are specialised courses for people with a disability, or for people wanting support with their numeracy and literacy skills. There are also English courses for speakers of other languages and Welsh courses in partnership with the Welsh for Adults programme.
Executive Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, Cllr Freda Salway, said: “The annual Learner’s exhibition is always a colourful showcase. There is always a lot of talent among the adult and community learners in Cardiff.
“There are hundreds of courses to suit all tastes at a variety of locations across the city so I would encourage anyone interested in learning a new skill to come along to the exhibition and see what we can offer. Who knows, it could be their work being displayed in next year’s exhibition.”
The Learners’ Exhibition is free and open to the public 5 to 10 June, 10am to 4pm and 11 June, 10am to 7pm. Enrolment for courses can be found online at www.cardiff.gov.uk/learn
