WALES MILLENNIUM CENTRE LAUNCHES PARENT AND TODDLER MUSIC CLASSES

The Wales Millennium Centre is launching its first pre-school music classes to encourage musicians of the future.

Starting on Friday, September 11, the weekly classes are a chance for babies and small children to make music with their parents or grandparents.

Led by musician and composer Helen Woods, the youngsters will be encouraged to make music using drums, xylophones and a range of other instruments.

Helen is no stranger to making music for little ones. She’s an accomplished pianist and percussionist who writes and performs the Tiddly Prom, a successful young people’s music event in the Cardiff Proms at St David’s Hall calendar.

During the nine pre-school music sessions of songs, song writing, dancing and general music making the themes of animals and the 5 senses will be explored.

Cardiff mum Tina Robinson is planning to join the new class with her 20-month-old daughter Lily.

She said: “It’s a fantastic way to encourage pre-school children and their mums and dads to make music.  I have been to a similar session and Lily enjoyed playing the xylophone, bell and drums. She even had her first taste of playing the piano.

“It’s a great way to introduce children to music at a young age.”

The new term starts on September 11 and runs until November 13. Sessions run from noon to 1pm and 1.3opm to 2.30pm. The cost is £36 for the term or £5 per session (capacity allowing).

Sarah Pellow,  Audience Development Learning & Participation Officer at the Wales Millennium Centre, said: “We’re delighted to be offering a term of music sessions for under 5’s within the Centre. It’s so important to engage such young children in arts activity and I can’t think of a better setting. Helen is and incredibly talented and experienced musician and makes every pre-school music session so much fun for both adult and child.”

Pre-School Music Autumn term: 11, 18, 25 Sept, 2, 9, 16, 23 Oct & 6, 13 Nov
